My word for 2023

It's been a hot minute since my last post. It seems professional highlights and thought-provoking productivity hacks aren't at the top of the priority list when you're covered in god knows what on the regular and wondering whether The Wiggles have a positive work-life balance (spoiler: it seems that they don't).

A constant throughout the bed-ridden later stages of pregnancy, a gnarly c-section recovery, and the long days of new mum life were podcasts.

After a few years of hiatus, I resubscribed to Mamamia Out Loud and since then, rarely goes a day without the company of Mia Freedman, Holly Wainwright, and Jessie Stephens on a long walk or quiet moment of solace in the evening.

As the New Year approached, the trio identified a word that they wanted to represent their life in 2023, whilst reflecting on the one they'd chosen for the present year. I decided to do the same.

For me, 2023 welcomes a level of uncertainty as I dust off my keyboard and get 'back on the tools' in February. It also exudes excitement as I launch my new brand, truth from embracing a new career trajectory, relief from farewelling elements that dimmed my professional spark, and pure joy as my husband and I approach celebrating our son's first birthday and the incredible adventures we have planned as a family this year.

The thing is, that's technically five words. As per the MMOL rules, it must be one. Summarising my thoughts, feelings, and ambitions for the year ahead, align felt like the most connected word.

This year, if it doesn't align with my goals, values, or gut feeling, I am saying no and letting it go. Personal, professional, and everything in between must align.

I look forward to being more present on this platform over the year and sharing more about the incredible projects to come over at Rachel Medlock Copywriting.

Till next time,

Rach
